‘Tis the season, my friends! It’s that time of year when all things Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas rule the months. You won’t find me complaining (or judging if you want to decorate early).
Over the past year, Chris and I have been making more of an effort to go on dates. It’s true that when you have a little one, dating each other gets tricky. The good news? It doesn’t have to be difficult and I’ve found that the simplest dates have been the most fun. Stil, I understand the annoyance of being unable to think of anything to do. To get the ideas rolling, here are six festive dates for you and your boo! Halloween pun intended.
Starting off #basic because who doesn’t love a pumpkin patch? A field of pumpkins, or even a small stand on the side of the road, is so pleasing to the senses. Have fun picking out a pumpkin or two and take them home to decorate. Who says you can’t have a pumpkin carving contest with just two people? If you don’t feel like dealing with pumpkin gunk, you can whip out the paint and get extra creative.
Another oldie, but a goodie. You can add a little spice to it by making a whole day of it (road trip to the mountains, anyone?!). Take photos while you explore the orchard, pick some apples, check out the market, and drink some cider. Bonus points if you take your pickings home and bake a pie together!
Definitely an adult’s night out! Go somewhere fun to enjoy a cocktail or beer before heading to a haunted house. Nothing sets the mood like being chased by a guy with a chainsaw, right?
I know Harry Potter has become super commercialized, but I don’t care. It’s become a source of sweet nostalgia for me after having grown up with it. I include this date because Chris and I do this every year! We get some HP themed treats and get cozy while binging all the movies. Plus, it’s perfect for Halloween through Christmas!
Spike some nog, put on a Christmas movie, and prepare to get icing everywhere. You and your significant other can each take a side and present it to each other when you’re finished. Does it have to look like the picture on the box? Heck no. Can you take a bite right afterwards? Heck yes.
This one may sound sappy to some, but I got this idea from our friends Jordan and Eric. They started a tradition of baking homemade christmas cookies together once they moved into their first house and I can’t get over how sweet it is (Yes, another pun). They don’t even have to be Pinterest-perfect. Grab a roll of dough at the grocery store and cut it into fun shapes!
Now you have half a dozen ideas to get you started on planning your next date night. You’d be surprised how just a tiny bit of creativity can make something simple feel new and fun. Spending time connecting with your spouse/significant other is so important. Don’t let everyday life with a tot or the rush of the holiday season keep you from making some alone time.
