Hey, friends! Welcome back to the blog and to the beginning of the Hey There series.
Whaaaaat?
While I was brainstorming some future blog topics, I began thinking about how I could talk a bit more about the ‘me’ portion of my business. The where did I come from, where did I go, cotton-eyed Joe portion. This is important to me because my work, as much as I love it, is part of my business and I am a brand before I am a business. The story of moi is part of my brand and that’s what I wanted to pull back the curtains on for you guys.
If you’ve perused my site, you will have seen the three points in the “About Me” snippet on my home page. If not, no worries, I won’t hold it against you. They go like this:
South Carolina Based Photographer + Entrepreneur
Believer Of The Pineapple + Pizza Combo
A Not-So-Hopeless Romantic, Letting My Love For Love Influence My Work
These are more than cute facts about yours truly. I spent time intentionally thinking of a few fun facts that would provide a snapshot of me. In this blog series, I’ll be talking about each of these points in more depth and by the end we’ll all know each other a little better. Sound good? Let’s jump in.
The short answer is simply being a photographer and an entrepreneur are not mutually exclusive. I do see myself pursuing other ventures in the future which is why I’m not Devon Hansford Photography, LLC , but Devon Hansford Creative, LLC DBA Devon Hansford Photography. My pal Lauren with Lauren DeLoach Creative helped me with this!
Yes and no. For starters, I put my business in God’s hands so other ventures are something I will pray about and follow through with when I feel like I’m being lead down that path. Secondly, my photography biz is still very much a baby! I want to build this up before I even try anything else. I can say that whatever else I do look into will be in the creative department. I love art so, so much and I believe it is important to our societies and cultures. At one point, I daydreamed about opening my own little art gallery where I would sell landscapes and host work from other artists of all kinds. It would have a cute little cafe with a wine bar and a fantastic playlist on repeat. Inset heart-eyed emoji here.
I still fancy that idea, so who knows? Nothing is impossible!
I talk a bit more about this on my actual About Me page, but I’ve wanted to “be my own boss” since I was a little girl. This is thanks to my dad who I’ve watched build his own business from the ground up – Like from a spare room in our home to his own building. Talk about inspiration! I’ve also always been a creative person, appreciating art of all types and being decent at a few forms of it. In my late teens/early twenties, I became very interested in photography and my husband bought me my first real camera as a college graduation gift. I graduated with a business degree, so I merged by business knowledge with my artsy side and Devon the photographer was born!
Unpacking this first point was so much fun! As I mentioned, these weren’t random highlights I chose and I want you all to understand the why behind each of them because it’s so much more fun when you feel like you’re already bffs with your photographer rather than feeling like you’re just posing for a stranger!
I’m looking forwarding to hanging with you guys some more on Monday for Part II. Until then, hop on over to my Insta and join the Gram Fam to keep up with the happenings.
Much Love!
