I may not photograph your typical weddings, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy them! Cake and champagne, dancing, and lots of love in the air – I’m always excited when we receive an invitation to celebrate friends and family taking this beautiful next step!
It takes me back to planning my own wedding. Between picking out a color palette and trying on lots of dresses, I realized that weddings seem to have their own vernacular. Thank the good Lord for Google, which helped me tremendously in planning an event that was special for Chris and I! Having been in the bride’s heels myself, I feel inspired to share tips and words of wisdom to current brides in the midst of preparing for their big day. Here I’ve created a glossary to shed some light on more (or less) common words you may come across during your wedding planning journey.
A men’s formal neckband with wide, pointed wings and typically made out of silk.
A series of hooks, buttons, or ribbons added to a wedding dress to hold the train from the floor.
A broad sash worn around a man’s waist under over under his tuxedo or suit jacket.
A wedding that is held outside of the couple’s hometown.
The term used to describe ivory or cream colored paper for your stationary suite.
A hair accessory typically worn to the side of the head with a comb and comprised of feathers, flowers, and/or fabric with decorative gems and/or beads.
A type of whipped icing made out of chocolate and cream.
Another term for “Bachelorette Party”.
Describes a venue who works with a particular caterer or handles the catering themselves.
A small mesh cap decorated with beads, pearls, or jewels and worn by brides.
The measure of the purity of gold jewelry, pure gold being 24 karats.
A form of printed designed for heavy stationary that leaves an impression in the paper by pressing into it from one side.
A maid of honor who is already married.
A small flower bouquet, typically given as a gift to the mothers of the bride and groom before the ceremony.
The conductor of the ceremony who is legally certified to perform marriages.
A ball of flowers used as a decoration piece.
The bride on the day of the wedding.
When the wedding party exists at the conclusion of the ceremony.
The term used to describe all your mailing stationary such as; save-the-dates, invitations, reply cards, reception cards, etc.
A smaller replica of your bride bouquet used for the bouquet toss during the reception.
A type of decorative lighting effect created by sticking lights on the ground and pointing them upwards.
A heavy, transparent paper used as a decorative overlay for other paper.
The most formal type of attire or dress code, also known as “full evening dress”.
What you may need if you fall in your super cute wedding heels – Break them in, girl!!
The feeling of intense longing to officially be a Mrs!
A fun venue to host your wedding!
