There’s a reason “beautiful places” was formally part of our state slogan. Having traveled to a few different states, I can honestly say that each one has its beautiful places perfect for exploring… and tying the knot! The locations listed below are what I consider to be the most scenic in the state to say “I do” in true elopement style.
Churches don’t have to be out of the question just because you’re eloping! Located in the small town of Yemassee, these beautiful ruins are all that remain of what was known as Prince William’s Parish Church. Beautiful greenery, stone archways, and even an alter are part of this venue. If you’re a history buff looking for an ethereal and even slightly gothic feel to say your vows – This is the place for you!

This Southern Live Oak, situated on John’s Island, provides the perfect shady spot to tie the knot – Considering it’s canopy covers upwards of 17,000 square feet! The oak is estimated to be an average of 400 years old and has survived the likes of Hurricane Hugo and urban development in the area. It’s truly a location symbolic of a marriage to last a lifetime.

Another Beaufort location making the list because with the Lowcountry as lovely as it is, choosing one is difficult! This location is for the couple who are looking to get some sand between their toes. Beautiful at sunrise or sunset, this island boasts a breathtaking shore lined with driftwood, natural wildlife, and the famous Hunting Island Lighthouse. You can find more information about the park here.

We’ve looked at the Lowcountry, now it’s time to visit the Upstate. Rainbow Falls is one of the many hiking trails located in Jones Gap State Park. The more adventurous and outdoorsy couple would feel right at home climbing to say, “I do”. If you have a pup you want to be part of your big day, you can even bring them along! Find more information about the state park here and information on the trail difficultly here.

This historic site isn’t unlike its Lowcounty sister, the Old Sheldon Church Ruins, giving a slightly gothic air to location. Built in the 1800’s, historians believe it to be the oldest surviving bridge in our Palmetto State. If you’re a history buff looking to elope in the mountains rather than near the coast, this place is worth the trip!

Each of these beautiful places are worth exploring even if you’re not looking to get hitched anytime soon. Or maybe, fellas, you’re looking for the perfect spot to pop the question to your lady – hint, hint.
Either way, I encourage you to go on what I call a “backyard adventure”; an adventure in your home state. These locations offer plenty of sightseeing, delicious local eats, and fresh air to create the perfect day trip.
